FAQ'S
How much you contribute is entirely up to your comfort level. Some clients enjoy sharing extensive details from their lives, while others prefer a more focused, selective approach. Some like to take a more active role in shaping the process, which is wonderful as it helps us collaborate closely to ensure your satisfaction, others leave the artistry of forming their story entirely to us. Expect to participate in scheduled interviews and provide feedback along the way to keep the project moving smoothly.
1. What are the main steps and how involved will I or my loved one need to be?
The process typically starts with an introductory meeting where we discuss your goals and the type of memoir you envision. This is followed by either a series of interviews where you or your loved one share stories, which are then transcribed and crafted into a written narrative or a set of interviews conducted through e-mail in the comfort of your own pace. Along the way, you’ll review drafts, provide feedback, and approve the final content before the book is printed/e-book is crafted.
2. What is the typical timeline from the first interview to receiving the final book?
The timeline varies depending on the complexity of the project and the number of interviews involved. On average, from the first interview to receiving the finished book, it takes about 6 to 12 months. This allows time for the interviews, writing, revisions, and final printing. However, we work with your schedule and can adjust accordingly.
3. How much time will the interviews take? Do I need to provide any materials (e.g., photographs, documents)?
Each interview typically lasts between 1 to 2 hours, and most projects involve between 5 and 10 interviews, depending on the depth of the project. You are welcome to provide photographs, letters, or other documents that add richness to your story. We will also help guide you on selecting the materials that best complement your memoir.
4. Are the interviewers professional writers, historians, or specialists in memoir creation? Will I get to choose who I work with?
Yes, our interviewers are experienced writers and specialists in memoir creation. We use our bespoke method to draw out key memories and help you tell your story in a meaningful way. While we carefully match you with an interviewer based on your preferences we will accommodate you with any changes needed.
5. If I’m not in the same location, how do interviews take place? Can they be done via video-call or phone?
Absolutely! The process remains convenient and accessible, regardless of where you are based.
6. Will you guide me through selecting the important events, stories, and themes for my book?
Yes, we’ll guide you throughout the entire process. If you’re unsure where to start or what to include, we will ask thought-provoking questions to help you identify the key moments, stories, and themes that will best capture your life’s journey. The aim is to make sure the memoir reflects your unique voice and experiences in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to you.
Writing a memoir can fulfill a deeper human need for meaning, legacy, and connection, even for those who’ve achieved everything. While success and relationships provide external satisfaction, a memoir satisfies the internal desire to be understood, remembered, and to leave a lasting legacy.
How it connects to that need:
Legacy: A memoir ensures that your values, lessons, and story are passed down, leaving a lasting mark beyond achievements.
Reflection: Writing a memoir encourages deep reflection, helping to find meaning in life’s highs and lows, and offering insight into personal growth.
Connection: Sharing your story fosters emotional connections, allowing others to relate and learn from your experiences.
Self-Actualization: Documenting your life is a way to express your truth and find fulfillment, helping your life feel complete.
